OIMU - Fortune Candle

Traditionally, 福 is a lucky letter that accompanies the life cycle & lifestyle of Koreans. At birth, '福' is embroidered on a newborn’s bedding, wishing for a blessed future. It's engraved on rice bowls and spoons for blessings at every meal, and sewn onto garments and accessories. OIMU have taken this special letter and turned it into a special candle, crafted from vegetable wax made of soybean oil. Fragrance-free. Produced in collaboration with Seoul-Made. It's hand-wrapped in printed paper and housed in a beautiful embossed box. Dimensions: 60 x 77 x 33 mm.

OIMU is a Seoul-based design studio, whose projects reinterpret forgotten cultural values and traditions. Their incense sticks are handmade with wood flour, elm-barks, corn starches, pine resin and fragrance oil. Through a  labour-intensive process harnessing traditional Korean techniques, skilled craftsman knead the raw natural materials and extract the dough elaborately by hand before air drying it in the wind over several months.
